So who doesn’t like a good salsa, especially a nice flavourful, perfectly spiced salsa to dip corn chips in? I mean, salsa is perfect for snacking, as an appetizer, or while watching a movie or sports. It is basically a staple for get togethers of all sorts, right? It’s delicious, healthy, easy to make, and super versatile! So why is it that we so often find ourselves face to face with the same old jarred, processed stuff from the store? I asked myself exactly this when I reached for a jar or it at the super market and thought to myself “No, I’m going to make it this time. Everything is in season right now so there is no excuse.” Here is what I came up with.
“No recipe required” Salsa
- red onion
- sweet bell pepper
- jalapeño pepper
- adobo sauce (from a can of chipotle peppers in adobo sauce)
- lime juice
Chop up what needs to be chopped, mix in what does not, and season to your liking. Make it your own, the quantities are up to you. Over time you will figure out which combination of ingredients works best for you. But do be careful when chopping the jalapeño. Protect your hand with a plastic bag or glove and immediately wash your cutting board afterwards. If the oils that are in the pepper get on to your hands or skin it can create a burning sensation that is hard to get rid of.
